چکیده

Bursting refers to patterns of consisting of episodes of relatively separated by intervals of neural activity fast spiking . Bursting neurons are ubiquitous in the nervous system and play important roles in the production of motor, quiescence sensory, and cognitive behaviors. Because bursting is the predominant mode of activity in central pattern generator (CPG networks that underlie rhythmic motor neurons have been best characterized in invertebrate CPG ) activity, bursting networks. Bursting neurons fall into two classes, based on whether bursting is an intrinsic neuronal property, resulting solely from the interaction among ionic currents, or whether it is a network property, emerging from the interaction among ionic and synaptic currents.

Chaotic phase synchronization in small-world networks of bursting neurons.

We investigate the chaotic phase synchronization in a system of coupled bursting neurons in small-world networks. A transition to mutual phase synchronization takes place on the bursting time scale of coupled oscillators, while on the spiking time scale, they behave asynchronously. It is shown that phase synchronization is largely facilitated by a large fraction of shortcuts, but saturates when...

The Interaction of Intrinsic Dynamics and Network Topology in Determining Network Burst Synchrony

The pre-Bötzinger complex (pre-BötC), within the mammalian respiratory brainstem, represents an ideal system for investigating the synchronization properties of complex neuronal circuits via the interaction of cell-type heterogeneity and network connectivity. In isolation, individual respiratory neurons from the pre-BötC may be tonically active, rhythmically bursting, or quiescent. Despite this...

Emergent bursting in small networks of model conditional pacemakers in the pre-Bötzinger complex.

This paper summarizes some lessons learned from the computational study of bursting oscillations in small networks of model pre-Bötzinger complex (pBC) neurons. Dynamical systems analysis explains the mechanisms through which synaptic coupling enhances the dynamic range of bursting and predicts the existence of multiple forms of busting and tonic spiking solutions. This analysis also demonstrat...

Burst-Duration Mechanism of In-phase Bursting in Inhibitory Networks

We study the emergence of in-phase and anti-phase synchronized rhythms in bursting networks of Hodgkin–Huxley–type neurons connected by inhibitory synapses. We show that when the state of the individual neuron composing the network is close to the transition from bursting into tonic spiking, the appearance of the network’s synchronous rhythms becomes sensitive to small changes in parameters and...

Control of bursting synchronization in networks of Hodgkin-Huxley-type neurons with chemical synapses.

Thermally sensitive neurons present bursting activity for certain temperature ranges, characterized by fast repetitive spiking of action potential followed by a short quiescent period. Synchronization of bursting activity is possible in networks of coupled neurons, and it is sometimes an undesirable feature. Control procedures can suppress totally or partially this collective behavior, with pot...
